How they differ
A VPS is a virtual server running on shared underlying hardware. It receives an allocated resource configuration, but details such as CPU contention, storage and upgrade paths depend on the specific plan.
A dedicated server gives one customer use of a physical machine. It can be a better fit for sustained resource demand or hardware control, while requiring attention to provisioning, management and replacement terms.
Questions to ask
- What CPU and memory capacity is actually allocated?
- How much isolation does the workload require?
- What storage, network, backup and support terms are included?
- Which location and delivery method are available?
A GPU server is a separate choice when parallel compute or GPU memory is central to the workload. GPU products may themselves be virtual or physical.
